The specific promotions described in this article have now passed, but it remains online so that the resources named will be of future use to travelers.
For 13 years, the visitors bureau in San Antonio has been helping travelers keep some of their money in the wallets with its yearly coupon book, the S.A.V.E. (that stands or San Antonio Visitor Experience). The booklet covers 15 attractions, 48 hotels and even has an offer for a new credit card (but why bother with the that?). The deals attached to these coupons expire mostly in January 2004, but some are good only through dates later this year.
Among the bigger savings at attractions are twofers, $10-$20-off discounts, a free pass for the next day and free kids ticket to Six Flags Fiesta Texas. At SeaWorld Adventure Park, one voucher gets a group of four persons in for $119, or other vouchers let you save $6 on admission, 20% off of purchases of $30 or more, 10% off a "Dine with Shamu" show and a free roll of film (buy a 2-pack, get one roll free).
Thinking like a Texan, the owner of the "world famous" Buckhorn Saloon & Museum offers $1 off each admission ticket "up to $1 Million." You can save up to $3 on admission to the Tower of the Americas or $6 to either the IMAX Theater, the Zoo or the Plaza Wax Museum. Other vouchers are for the Natural Bridge Caverns (up to $12 saving), the Botanical Gardens (up to $6 saving), the Schlitterbahn (a water and inner-tube adventure, up to $10), the Children's Museum (up to $4 off), Splashtown (up to $30 off), Wonder World (a cave, up to $12 off) and the Witte Museum (up to $4 off). Expiration dates vary, so check the brochure carefully. Unfortunately, there is no discount for San Antonio?s top draw, The Alamo, so you'll have to save around it, but not in it.
Hotel discounts include the Marriott Rivercenter, with S.A.V.E. rates from $99 to $129, depending on the date; the historic St. Anthony, with S.A.V.E. rates starting at just $89; and the equally historic Menger Hotel (where Teddy Roosevelt recruited many of his Rough Riders for the Spanish-American War), with S.A.V.E. rates also from $89.
