It's winter in North America, so that means it's high season in those warmer, sunnier places. But it doesn't necessarily mean high prices, at least not with this promotion from Apple Vacations (tel. 800/5170-2000; www.applevacations.com), which is this week's smart deal. The company is offering airfare and three nights starting from $399 to Punta Cana's Natura Park Eco-Resort and Spa in the Dominican Republic. Taxes add an additional $90-$140 per person.
The lowest advertised price reflects three nights of accommodations and many February departures through Valentine's Day. For that same travel period, you can also choose four nights from $549 or seven nights from $599 -- an even bigger savings. The price rises by $100 for departures February 15-28, and jumps to $629 for three nights for most March departures. However, that same price includes airfare, your all-inclusive stay (which covers meals, entertainment, drinks, water sports, etc.), along with round-trip airport-to-hotel transfers. It also includes room service. Keep in mind that a price this low won't last and there may not be availability from every departure gate for the exact date or length of time you want to travel, so it helps if your plans can be a bit flexible.
The property is beachfront and located a half a mile from the fishing village Cabeza de Toro and not far from Bavaro National Park. (Bird watching, anyone?) As an eco-resort, natural elements are utilized throughout the design, with abundant natural light, indigenous plants and flowers, and a spa that calls on nature for its treatments.
