Tafelspitz, Pierogis and Pils: Pinch More Pennies in Prague, Krakow, Vienna and More with Special Savings--Only for Frommer's Readers

As temperatures start to fall, discount packager Affordable Poland dishes out competitive prices on both independent and escorted tours to middle and eastern European destinations, and we've annually touted the best they have to offer. Well, they've made it even easier for us this year by offering you, our loyal readers, the option of choosing one of two different additional discounts--either $50 off per couple or free roundtrip transfers (worth about $80). You decide. All you have to do to qualify is contact the agency and make all your arrangements via e-mail on any bookings completed by December 31, 2002.

What can you save on? For starters, their six-day/five-night Krakow package, which places you and your traveling companion in a centrally located superior class tourist hotel. Base-prices per person before taxes are $599 out of NYC, $619 out of Newark or Boston, $629 out of Chicago or Washington, D.C., $699 out of Miami and $729 out of Los Angeles. Single supplements are $159. If you've never considered Krakow, you should. Its history is long, and it's one of the few such cities in Europe that escaped WWII with little to no damage to its streets and buildings. The whole town is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Nearby Auschwitz, while not a pleasant sidetrip, is nonetheless a necessary journey for any traveler.

Warsaw, on the other hand, was pretty much erased from the map as a result of the Big One. It's cosmopolitan compared to Krakow. Some of the architecture may be heavy, Soviet-bloc, but the people are hearty and the history is of the utmost importance here. This is where the Jews of the Ghetto bravely rose up against the Nazis, only to be brutally crushed. Prices for six-day/five-night packages are $10 less than the Krakow prices. The single supplement is $139.

Similar packages to the Czech capital come in even cheaper--$50 less per destination compared to the Krakow deals, with a single supplement of only $99. These independent packages include your airfare, your hotel, breakfasts and local hotel taxes. Airport fees and taxes ranging from $50-$120 are not included. Affordable Poland, a subsidiary of Sophisticated Traveler, also offers independent and escorted tours to Budapest, Vienna, Vilnius, a slew of Swiss cities and more.
