You leave Los Angeles on a Wednesday evening, arriving in Tahiti the following morning. Here, you can opt for an add-on package of 3 to 6 days (about which more, later) or travel right on to New Zealand. On arrival in New Zealand, you pick up your car from Maui Rental and get your Golden Chain motel pass, so that you can drive and stay wherever you like for the 7 nights.
You return from New Zealand on the following Friday, stopping again in Tahiti, where you have the opportunity to stay for a 3 or 6 day package if you didn't do so on the flight out.
The add-on packages for your South Pacific idyll start at $300 for 1 night in Tahiti and 2 nights in Moorea, the gentler island just half an hour distant from Papeete, the bustling capital of French Polynesia. The 6-night program starts at $420 and includes 2 nights on Tahiti, 4 nights on Moorea. Both packages include inter-island transportation and all transfers.
Your tickets are good for 30 days, so you can spend additional time in either country. (And note that there may be a schedule change on April 1, affecting the day of departure from the US.)
The prices, as always, are per person based on two people in a room. Airport taxes and fees of about $79 not included. Also, when you leave New Zealand, you have to pay their departure tax of NS $20 (about US $10).
