The Early Bird Catches the Euro: 3 Ways to Book Now for New Year's Eve in Europe

Travel packagers want you to start thinking about New Year's in Europe, and a number of them are running competitively priced deals for days that typically top winter travel prices.

It's not even Memorial Day -- and many people have yet to plan their summer trip yet -- but travel packagers want you to start thinking about going to Europe for New Year's Eve. A number of companies are running competitively priced deals to Europe for New Year's Eve for anywhere between four and six nights; you can decide which one suits you best, based on airline of choice, accommodations offered, and other variables. Most of these deals carry either a May 20 or a May 29 deadline, so you need to hustle to reserve.

New Year's in Paris, brought to you by Air France Holidays (tel. 800/2-FRANCE; www.airfrance-holidays.com), priced from $669 per person for round-trip airfare, six nights of accommodations, continental breakfast every morning, a Paris city map, hotel taxes and surcharges, and airline fuel surcharges. If you depart on Christmas day and stay in the accommodations in the budget category, it is priced from $729; December 26 and 27 trips are priced from $729 and December 28 is priced from $669.

Similarly, the airline is offering New Year's in Rome, priced from $829 for December 28 departures; departures for the previous three days start from $899 per person. It includes round-trip airfare, standard accommodations for six nights, continental breakfast daily, hotel taxes and service charges, along with airline fuel surcharges. Prices for both destinations are based on departures from New York-JFK or Newark, NJ; add Philly or Boston for $10 more; Baltimore for $30, Chicago for $90, and so forth. Bookings need to be paid in full within a day, by 2pm; a Saturday stay may be required.

The offerings from Go-Today (tel. 800/227-3235; www.go-today.com) start at the low end, such as four nights in Dublin from $399, London from $549; Paris from $649 and Rome from $849. Packages include round-trip airfare, continental breakfast, taxes and service charges for the hotel, and airline fuel surcharges. All of Go-Today's packages are for six nights except for Dublin, which is for four. Most are based on Newark, NJ or New York-JFK airports except for Barcelona, which is based on Boston; and the Dublin trip is calculated based just on New York-JFK. The booking deadline is May 20 and the full amount is due within a day of booking by 2pm. All destinations offer upgrades in accommodations and the opportunity to extend the vacation.

Virgin Atlantic Airlines (tel. 888/937-8474; www.virgin-vacations.com) has packages to Barcelona, Dublin, Paris, Prague, and Rome. Prices start as low as $399 for four nights in Dublin for the December 30 departure, which also includes continental breakfast, hotel taxes, and service charges and mandatory fuel surcharges. Six nights in Barcelona are priced from $749 for the December 28 departure and include the same amenities; Prague is priced from $699 per person for six nights for the December 28 departure. The full amount for the trip is due within one day of booking by 2pm and the trip is non-refundable and non-changeable.
