With St. Patty's Day on the horizon, do you have Dublin on the brain? Has it been ages since you've been to London, or have you yet to visit Edinburgh? Just in time for spring, this week's Smart Deal comes from European Destinations (tel. 877/267-2247; www.europeandestinations.com) and takes you to all three cities for a starting price of $1,155.
The independent six-night trip takes care of your flights and hotels, so you can focus on planning your sightseeing. Start in London, with its classic double-decker buses, the Queen's stoic guards outside Buckingham Palace, and fashionable locals who always seem to wear fabulous shoes. Then it's off to Scotland, where you can admire the city's medieval and Georgian architecture from atop the Edinburgh Castle. Cap off the trip with a visit to Dublin's Trinity College and the Book of Kells, then down a pint after touring Guinness Storehouse.
Like many online packagers, the prices can fluctuate. The nice part about booking with European Destinations, however, is that you can check the price history for this itinerary as well as other trips. For example, you can see that someone paid $894 (including taxes) for this itinerary leaving March 26 from Baltimore. You can also choose from a range of hotels, but that will likely change your price. If you want to spend more time in one city, you can customize that, too.
Trip Type: Air-inclusive, independent
What the Quoted Price Gets You: Airfare from New York to London (returning from Dublin), a flight to Edinburgh, six nights' hotel (two nights in each city), some breakfasts, hotel taxes, and fuel surcharges.
What Else You'll Have to Pay: Airport taxes and surcharges, which vary based on your itinerary but could add on at least $50; insurance and delivery charges.
When: Advertised itinerary was priced on March 10 for a May 20 departure from New York.
Book By: As soon as possible for best availability.
Other Details: You have the option to pay for the vacation in several installments, provided you are traveling more than 60 days from the day you reserve and your cost totals more than $2,000. The company's packages do not include transfers, although you can book them while building your itinerary. Changes to your itinerary can cost at least $50 per person; cancellations cost a minimum of $100. The penalty depends on how far in advance you cancel.
All prices are per person and, if lodging is a component of the package, based upon two people traveling together (unless otherwise noted). The prices listed are general starting rates; see "What Else You'll Have to Pay" for details about associated taxes and fees. Base-prices, taxes and fees can vary based on point of departure and time of travel. Trip add-ons like sightseeing tours and meal plans may also increase the price. Check with the tour operator for additional gateways and any single supplements, which is the extra cost that a solo traveler would pay to book the deal.
