Everyone in Honolulu knows the Halekulani is the city's premier place to stay, but prices are astronomical. What many visitors don't realize is that the hotel's sister (just across the street), the Waikiki Parc, charges as little as $200 for a mountain view room, $265 for ocean view. Even better, the Parc now has a special Sunrise package, good through December 25 of this year, offering not only an ocean view room for $186, but throwing in a free compact car (worth at least $50, they say), free hotel parking (worth another $20, according to them), and free daily full American buffet breakfast. (In fact, you can have a full Japanese breakfast in lieu of the American buffet if you like.) The point of the car is to get you out to see the rest of the sites on Oahu, not just in Waikiki itself, say the hotel's managers.

You can upgrade to deluxe ocean view for $203, with the same benefits, or upgrade the car for an additional charge. You can have a third person in the room for an additional $50, inclusive of breakfast. No charge for children 14 and under in the parents' room, but maximum occupancy of three persons. All package rates are subject to a 7.25% hotel tax and a 4.166% general excise tax, for a total tax of 11.416%.

The Waikiki Parc is right in the heart of Waikiki and only "a few steps" away from the beach (about 100 yards). The 297 guest rooms have outdoor lanais or view balconies, with in-room safes, remote cable TV, small fridge, two phones, air conditioning, voice mail, iron and board, etc. Hotel amenities include fitness and business centers, concierge services, heated swimming pool and sun deck on the roof (with ocean views), restaurant signing privileges at the Big Sister hotel, the famous Halekulani, and beach services with equipment rentals (sailing, surfing and snorkeling). Restaurants include the Parc Cafe or Kacho, a Japanese hideaway.

For more information or to make reservations, go to their Web site, www.waikikiparc.com or phone them at 800/422-0459 (both USA & Canada), or at 808/921-7272, fax 808/923-1336.
