April 28, 2004 -- The folks at OffPeakTraveler.com (www.offpeaktraveler.com) have a new treat for readers -- condo rentals in Mexico and parts of Central America for extremely low prices, averaging around $18 per night per person when four or more persons stay together. We compared them with a few other sites and came to the conclusion that OPT's prices are, indeed, among the cheapest to be had.

The online-only consolidator is offering studios or one-bedroom condos sleeping from two to four persons at $499 per week at the Cabo San Lucas resort Sol Mar Beach Club. This works out to just $17.82 per person per night if four people are involved, only $35.64 per person for couples. Competitor Condo Savers (www.condosavers.com) wants $219.95 per night for the same Sol Mar, with the seventh night free. That works out to $1,319.70 per week, or $47.13 per person per night for a foursome, or $94.26 per person for couples.

A third site, Mexico Condo Reservations (www.mexonline.com, which refers you to Mexico Condores, www.mexicocondores.com), asks $140 for a junior suite or $145 for a garden view suite, each with a maximum of four persons, per night, with the fourth night free. The lower rate of $140 becomes $840 per week, or $30 per person per night in a foursome, double that for a couple.

At the pricier Pueblo Bonita Resort in Cabo, a one bedroom condo sleeping up to six persons goes for just $799 per week from OPT, which works out to just $19 per person per night at maximum capacity. The Condo Saver wants $185.95 per night, which works out to $1,301.65 per week, or $30.99 per person per night sleeping six. Mexico Condo Reservations charges $189 for two persons, with the fourth and seventh nights frees, making a total weekly outlay of $945, or $69.50 per person per night. Condo Concepts (www.condoconcepts.com) wants $1,317.33 for the period (as a sample) of May 22 to 29, 2004, at the Pueblo Bonito Rose, four persons maximum, all taxes included. That works out to $47 per night per person, four staying, double that for a couple.
