If you're the type of person who gets bummed out about winter after the holidays, this week's Smart Deal may help you get through January. Liberty Travel's (tel. 888/271-1584; www.libertytravel.com) having a year-end clearance in which you can save up to 60% off travel packages to a spate of places, ranging from hot spots like Mexico, Hawaii, and the Caribbean to Europe and Las Vegas.

We're focusing on the Caribbean, where the weather is a welcome relief from winter and airfare is also bundled into this deal. The lowest advertised price reflects a four-night stay in the Bahamas along with round-trip airfare -- at press time, round-trip flights from Miami to Nassau, Bahamas, for January travel dates ran about $250, before taxes; that price is bound to go up over the coming weeks.

Not into the Bahamas or flying from somewhere else? At least a half dozen more island destinations are included in this year-end clearance. Choose from four nights in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, with round-trip airfare (from $689); or airfare to Montego Bay, Jamaica, with four nights at the four-star Rose Hall Resort and Spa (from $875).

Trip Type: Air-inclusive; independent

What the Quoted Price Gets You: Round-trip airfare from Miami to Nassau, Bahamas; transfers; four nights at the all-inclusive Breezes Resort; all meals, drinks, and non-motorized water sports; and airline fuel surcharges.

What Else You'll Have to Pay: Government/airline taxes and fees of an additional $106

Book By: Jan. 3, 2011

When: Jan. 1, 2011-April 30, 2011

Other Details: Packages are priced per person based on double occupancy and generally reflect mid-week, off-peak departures. Departures from other gateways are available, including Chicago ($739), New York ($759), and Los Angeles ($855). Travel dates will vary slightly from property to property but will generally include peak season. Book-by deadlines also vary according to the property.

All prices are per person and, if lodging is a component of the package, based upon two people traveling together (unless otherwise noted). The prices listed are general starting rates; see "What Else You'll Have to Pay" for details about associated taxes and fees. Base-prices, taxes, and fees can vary based on point of departure and time of travel. Blackout dates may apply. Trip add-ons like sightseeing tours and meal plans may also increase the price. Check with the tour operator for additional gateways and any single supplements, which is the extra cost that a solo traveler would pay to book the deal.
