July 18, 2003 -- SpongeBob SquarePants, the yellow sea sponge who lives in a pineapple, is a big hit with both children and grown-ups. And now that the swanky Wyndham hotel chain is organizing SpongeBob Splash Parties, with vacation packages out of New York as low as $484 for three nights -- air and activities included -- this deal should fly quite well with kids and parents alike.
Included in this package, dealt by US Airways Vacations, is the SpongeBob SquarePants Splash Party, named for the popular animated character on Nickelodeon. Children from 3 to 12 can enjoy a variety of SpongeBob-oriented, kid-tested activities, with a SpongeBob beach ball and towel as welcome gifts in the room, and the Splash party, hosted poolside two to three times per week.
At the party are refreshments, special SpongeBob games such as pool volleyball, family limbo, jellyfish tossing (don't worry, they're not real jellyfish) and relay races. The party is guaranteed to take place every Wednesday and Saturday (hours and more dates vary by resort).
Sample prices include the $484 mentioned from New York to the Wyndham Condado Plaza in Puerto Rico. Packages are available from at least 100 US Airways departure cities, but for illustration, a similar three-night package to the Wyndham in Aruba runs $638 from New York, while the same deal to the Wyndham in Nassau runs $524 and to the Wyndham in Jamaica $493.
Sample rates are per person, based on double occupancy. The validity dates are for departures (usually on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays) between now and late August. Rates don't include airport and security charges. Package subject to availability. Unfortunately, SpongeBob SquarePants himself will not attend the Splash Party (he can't be everywhere and has presumably RSVPed with his regrets).
