April 12, 2004 -- The change of seasons in Central America and Mexico doesn't have to mean Spring Break madness. It can be simply the chance to take advantage of some rates that are not as high as in winter, which is the kind of thing we are on the lookout for. Here are a few special deals from that part of the world coming up right about now.

AeroMexico Vacations has made a deal with six of the all-inclusive Palace Resorts in Cancun in which travelers can get a $200 savings on vacations of four to 14 nights for travel through September 30, 2004 if you book by April 30. The typical vacation includes roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations, airport transfers and 24-hour traveler assistance. Typical package prices include $824 from Atlanta with a four-night stay at the Beach Palace Resort.

As with any Palace Resort all-inclusive packages, you get the hotel room, all meals, beverages and plenty of sporting and other activities. Also from Atlanta, for example, you could stay four nights at the Cancun Palace Resort from $829; four nights at the Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort, Sun Palace Resort or Xpu-Ha Palace Resort from $979. Prices do not include airport taxes and fees, and the samples are for the month of April 2004. You should mention the promotion code 2PAL when booking. AeroMexico has 18 gateways in the United States, including Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, El Paso, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Ontario CA, Orlando, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, San Diego and Tucson.

More savings can be had on select Caribbean getaways with US Airways Vacations, such as three nights at the JY Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa in Cancun, a deluxe place, for just $499 (marked down from $999). You have to book by April 15 for travel June 1 through December 12, 2004. You get the roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations, roundtrip airport/hotel transfers, hotel taxes and service charges and 24-hour "Customer Care protection." Un-Belize-able Bargain

Sunny Land Tours has a delectable-sounding deal, for ten days (nine nights) in Belize, from just $763.50. That rate applies to departures from New York or Newark on May 4, 11, 18 and 25, 2004. Departures from other gateways and for other days available at additional charge. They say "online bookings will be given higher priority" for this first-come, first-served offer. There are also options, including a scuba diving one from $44.16 per person. You stay at the Tropica Resort, on the beach of famous Ambergris Cay, in ocean view rooms. (The island was the setting for the first season of "Temptation Island.") Also included in the package is your roundtrip airfare on US Airways, domestic flights in Belize, roundtrip airport transfers in Ambergris Caye, and all Belize government taxes. Airport taxes and fees of about $110 are extra.
