Spring breaks aren't just for callow youth any longer, at least if the marketing executives of the various tourist offices in Florida have their way. The folks in Orlando have come up with "Family Spring Breaks," a term so valuable they've applied for a trademark on it. But with promises of three-night packages including hotel stay and attraction tickets for a family of four starting at $400, maybe they're on to something. The promotion runs through April, 2003.

More than 20 Orlando hotels are offering springtime specials that run from $55 per night per room (at a suite property, no less) to $279 for per night at a luxury resort. Most offers include value-added items such as free breakfast or free rides to the theme parks.

The above-mentioned $400 package can range up to $1,100 (both prices include tax). You can also book a "Family Getaway Package" that includes a three-night hotel stay (for a family of four, at the Travelodge International Drive), one-day admission for each member in the party to Universal Orlando, SeaWorld Orlando (choose the Islands of Adventure at Universal Studios), Arabian Knights and Gatorland for $638.13, including tax. Additional discounted tickets to Cirque de Soleil, the Kennedy Space Center and the Orlando Science Center, among others, can also be added on to the packages. You can also use your Orlando MagiCard offering up to $500 in savings if you use every voucher in the book. To read our previously published piece on the MagiCard, click here.

Orlando knows a good thing when it sees it: it is, after all, the #1 family spring break destination in the country already. For a complete listing of suggested spring break activities and information on other special packages, visit www.orlandoinfo.com/springbreak or phone 888/ORL 4 FUN.
