March 31, 2003--For the sixth consecutive year, the Commonwealth of Virginia is offering a collection of coupons to visitors from Canada in a program called Loonie Savers. While Americans might think "How rude," Canucks will immediately recognize the slang term for their national dollar coin, which features a loon afloat on the water-thus, the "loonie." This program is an incentive for Canadians whose currency has been suffering for years in comparison to the American dollar (at the time of writing C$1= US$.67).
This annual program, running from March 2003 to March 2004, offers a seemingly unending series of two-for-one offers, reduced admissions and discounted meals and hotel rooms. Conveniently, ever coupon is viewable and printable online, so there is no need to make a phone call, send an e-mail or mail a letter requesting the coupons.
You can get more information by going online to www.virginia.org/loonie, where the offers are detailed in both English and French. You'll also find a wealth of information about the Commonwealth's history and a month-by-month calendar of events to help you plan your trip. Of course, we'd also like to remind you that you can find a second wealth of information online in our Destinations section here, www.frommers.com/destinations/virginia.
