May 28, 2004 -- Sometimes hotels dream up crazy ways of getting the attention of prospective guests, perhaps adding a few twists to their services, sometimes coming up with a really neat new idea. In the case of the W hotel chain, already famous for its trend setting attitudes and ambience, the new idea is "wonderland programming," and it's a doozy. "Wonderland," which they're billing as "a complete experiential retreat for the senses," will come to life online and at each of the 19 hotels in the chain this month.
In their desire to evolve to "a global lifestyle affinity," W wants to help make your dreams come true. They'll use new "seductive" lighting, "intoxicating" signature scents (vanilla, for one) and "luscious" botanicals. At check-in, you'll get a surprise treat from the W Store, Bliss Spa or Armani Exchange, among other places. You'll get "whimsical messaging" through in-room dining cards, for instance.
These Wonderland experiences include SPI (Social Interactive Playtime) such as Living Room events with cocktails and music; an option for cooking classes, local restaurant tours and/or wine tasting; a Pride package for lesbian and gay guests including room discount, a CD, an "intimacy kit" and two welcome cocktails; in-room wireless Internet access and music; and a PAW program (Pets Are Welcome), including bedding and amenities for pets, always welcome in the guest rooms.
There are five W hotels in New York City, 19 others in the US and abroad, including Mexico City. Contact W Hotels at www.whotels.com.
