June 18, 2003 -- Virgin Vacations, affiliated with Virgin Atlantic airlines, has its eyes on Argentina and is in a mood to tango. To get willing partners, they are offering six-night packages to the economically strapped "Paris of the South" from just $599.
That fabulously low price includes roundtrip air from New York's JFK, Newark, Boston, Miami and Washington, D.C., six nights' lodging, a city tour, daily breakfast, hotel taxes and service charges, and roundtrip airport/hotel transfers. You must book by November 26, 2003, and you can travel from August 18 through December 11, 2003. If you wish to travel between June 13 and August 17, 2003, the same package price starts at $749 and up.
Air transport is by "select scheduled air carrier," which could mean any line Virgin picks for you. The lowest price will put you at Buenos Aires' Embajador Hotel, but you can upgrade to one of nine other hotels, all the way up to the city's best establishment, the Caesar Park, at $1049 for the package.
Surcharge add-ons from other departure cities include these samples: $100 from Orlando, Albany, Charlotte, Greensboro, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Portland ME. Add $150 from Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles or San Francisco. Add-on price is $180 from Atlanta, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Cleveland, Detroit, Kansas City, Memphis, Minneapolis and St. Louis.
It's $200 extra from Austin, Houston, Phoenix, Las Vegas and San Diego. Add $250 if you're coming from Portland OR or Seattle.
Prices are per person based on double occupancy. There's a $25 surcharge on travel Thursday through Sunday. Airport taxes and fees are additional. Space is limited, so this is subject to availability.
