September 22, 2003 -- I was impressed by my first visit to a Microtel Inn, and remain so, especially by their prices. There are several budget-oriented hotel and motel chains around the country, but Microtel is one of the newer -- and smaller ones -- well worth your notice. As well, don't overlook the giant of them all, Choice hotels, made up of more than 5,000 individual properties in 43 countries -- sporting a long roster of brand names you should recognize (Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Clarion, Sleep Inn, EconoLodge, Quality, Rodeway Inn and Main Stay Suites). Both groups have some great deals for leaf-peepers this fall.
Microtel says you can enjoy fall rates as low as $32 for a single and $42 for a double if you travel between now and November 30, 2003. These "Take a Break" rates are good only online at www.microtelinn.com or by phoning 800/771-7171. Rates are based on availability, not valid at all Microtel properties, and do not include taxes, fees or other charges. Certain blackout dates may apply.
At the popular Microtel Inn & Suites in the Philadelphia area in West Chester, you can take advantage of the "Brandywine Valley Weekend," which includes lodging for two and three nights; and tickets for each guest to attractions that include the American Helicopter Museum, the Brandywine River Museum, the Delaware Museum of Natural History, Longwood Gardens, Nemours Mansion & Gardens, Winterthur Museum and the QVC Studio Tour. Rates run from $65 to $135 per room, offer valid until December 31, 2003, Thursdays through Sundays only. The hotel has 102 rooms and a new fitness room.
The Comfort Inn & Suites Brandywine, also in West Chester, has special fall rates beginning at $79.95 single or double, valid through November 30, 2003. With your room, you get a complimentary tour of the QVC Studio Park, two-for-one admission to Brandywine River Museum, American Helicopter Museum and Brandywine Battle Park, as well as a discount on admission to Longwood Garden and a free coupon book to King of Prussia Mall and free continental breakfast.
