Here's a deal well-heeled baseball fans won't want to miss: Roadtrips World Series is offering a package that guarantees tickets to the first or second game of the World series, including two nights' accommodations (Oct 18 to 21). The price starts at $1,140 per person, double occupancy. The company also offers overnight packages for regular-season games, starting at $229 per person that includes games tickets and hotel stays as well. You can reach them at 800/465-1765 or www.roadtrips.com.

We checked with Aramark, the concessionaire for 13 Major League stadiums, and here's what they sell on a typical game day: 286,410 hot dogs and sausages, 186,260 cups of soda, 58,850 bags of peanuts, 36,600 soft pretzels, 14,625 bags of popcorn, and 10,050 boxes of Cracker Jack. Maybe that'll ease your dietary conscience when you indulge in a dog.

If you can't get to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, anytime soon, don't despair. Some 500 pieces of baseball memorabilia from the Cooperstown collection are en route to 10 museums across the country, including a baseball from the first known game in 1839, Jackie Robinson's 1956 Brooklyn Dodgers jersey and the homerun bats used by Mark McGuire, Sammy Sosa, Babe Ruth and Roger Maris.

Exhibition stops in order include:

  • New York (through Aug 18, 2002)
  • Los Angeles (Sept 22 to Jan 5)
  • Chicago (Feb 7 to July 20, 2003)
