I'll bet you don't know about small town Brooklyn, or that it's certainly not in New York across the river from Manhattan, but in Connecticut's "Quiet Corner," the seldom-visited northeast section of the state. They don't want a flood of tourists, mind you, but they would welcome a few discerning visitors now and then. To aid in that effort, "Quiet Corners" is offering a $25 discount on their usual weekend rate of $120 per person (for two nights, that is), if you're willing to spend your weekend in the middle of the week. To help, they have thrown in some other lures as well.

For just $95 per person, you can stay two midweek nights in one of their bed and breakfast inns, sharing a room, of course, from Sunday through Thursdays. The price includes the two nights' lodging, taxes, a daily breakfast, a picnic lunch, a gift basket full of local gardening products, and special promotional offers from participating garden centers and attractions. And of course, should you want to stay the weekend instead, the price is $120 per person for all the above.

The "Getaway Gardens" package is valid from May 3 through June 30 (except on Mother's Day weekend). Throughout May and June there are garden tours, vegetable sales, herb fests, garden parties and more.

If you're not into gardening, you can go hiking on dozens of trails, or golf, canoe and fish. You could also shop for antiques in Putnam and surrounding villages, visit a winery and wine garden or an historic museum, or just relax and eat well in one of the area's fine (and mercifully quiet) restaurants.
