From June 1 through August 31, 2002, you can take the Kohala Mule Trail Adventure for just $76 for adults, $68 for kids (regular prices $95 and $85, respectively). On the northeast tip of the island, you'll meander through lush vegetation, view cascading waterfalls and take in spectacular views of the dramatic Kohala Coast. The scent of guava, ginger and other exotic plants and flowers should linger in your nose and memory, even if the local muleskinner guide's storytelling doesn't in your ears and mind. The trip takes three hours, and you'll learn to love the critters, with names like Molly, Jake, Daisy and others. With twice daily departures, it's an easy ride.
Other nature adventures offered by Hawaii Forest & Trail include (1) a Kahua Cloud Forest Adventure, hiking on the slope of Kohala Volcano; (2) a Mauna Kea Summit Adventure, viewing the stars by telescope after a picnic dinner; (3) a Valley Waterfall Adventure, 4-wheeling up to the Kohala Ditch Trailhead and walking behind a dramatic waterfall; (4) a Kona Lava Tube Adventure, inside a tube (like a cave) as high as 30 feet; and (5) a Rainforest Discovery Adventure, into the heart of a pristine tropical rainforest. You also have choices (6), a Volcanoes Park Adventure or (7), a Birding Tour.
