Global Ski Resort: Prices Drop as the Season Ends

Whistler stretches its season and lowers its rates, Tahoe extends deals to 2009-2010 early birds, Zermatt makes Swiss skiing more affordable, and other special offers around the world.

Months of Skiing Remain at Whistler

For British Columbia's Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains (tel. 888/403-4727; www.whistlerblackcomb.com), spring is a long season. Whistler plans to operate until April 26, and Blackcomb closes its regular season on June 14 but reopens the very next day for glacier skiing until July 26. Well-priced lift/lodging packages abound, including the Spring Break Package until Apr. 6 starting at C$111 per person, per night; buy four get a fifth night free; and even a three-night, two-day escape with a third night free.

Mt. Bachelor's Late-Season Deals

Mt. Bachelor near Bend, Ore. (tel. 800/829-2442; www.mtbachelor.com) lures skiers and riders with enticing spring values. Ski and stay three nights for the price of two in a partner lodging property and get free multi-day lift tickets and rental equipment for youngsters with a paying adult. The kids-ski-free offer is also valid for multi-day, at-the-window ticket purchases.

Squaw Packages Include Ski or Snowboard Class

Four adults sharing a two-bedroom condo in Tahoe City, Calif., can get a whale of a weekend deal at Squaw Valley (tel. 800/403-0206; www.squaw.com) through Apr. 11. Two weekend nights' lodging, two days of skiing, and one group lesson start at $110 nightly per person. The resort, which hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics, also includes free ski or snowboard instruction with third-night-free lift/lodging packages at Village at Squaw Valley, starting at $130 per person, per night.

Spring Deals at Tahoe Ski Areas

The purchase of a 2009-10 season pass for Northstar-at-Tahoe (tel. 800/GO-NORTH; www.northstarattahoe.com) and Sierra-at-Tahoe (tel. 530/659-7453; www.sierraattahoe.com) includes free skiing for the rest of this season. Buying before Apr. 30 represents a $50 savings off the price of the pass. Additionally, Northstar offers a great multi-day lift/lodging package starting at $108 per person, per night, double occupancy in a studio condominium. Both areas plan to operate through mid-April.

Mad About Mont Ste.-Anne

Mont Ste. Anne, Quebec's (tel. 800/463-1568; www.mont-sainte-anne.com) Spring Madness package is available through Apr. 23 and includes three nights of lodging and three days of skiing for the price of two at this big mountain along the scenic St. Lawrence River and also at Stoneham. Rates start at C$192. The opportunity to enjoy enchanting Quebec City for après-ski: priceless.

Zoom to Zermatt for Spring Skiing

Spring skiing only enhances the charm of Zermatt (tel. +41 (0) 27 966 81 00; www.zermatt.ch) and the incomparable beauty of the Matterhorn region of Switzerland. From Apr. 18 to May 2, four nights' lodging and a four-day lift pass start at CHF 513 in a mid-priced hotel including daily breakfast, from CHF 676 for five nights and five days, and CHF 833 for six days and six nights. Prices drop still more during the following week, which is the last of the 2008-09 ski season. Simpler lower-priced hotels and more expensive, more luxurious ones are also available. Holiday apartments are also less but do not include breakfast. All packages may be started any day of the week, and all include admission to the Matterhorn Museum. If you get there before the end of April, be sure to see the "100 Years of Zermatt Ski Club" Exhibition.

Portillo Package Includes Top Instruction

Former freestyle champ and ace Aspen ski instructor John Clendenin (tel. 877/SKI-DOCS or 970/544-0300; www.skidoctors.com) holds a Clendenin Ski Method Camp in Portillo, Chile, Sept. 5-13. The camp is geared for all skiing levels. A seven-day lift ticket, six days of coaching with Clendenin and his certified international coaches, one day for free skiing or just chilling, daily video analysis, accommodations at the slopeside five-star Hotel Portillo and four meals a day (the regular three plus high tea) and Santiago-Portillo transportation start at $3,895 per person, double occupancy and $4,145 single, plus air fare to Santiago.
