Getting There
There is only one way to Daufuskie Island, and that’s by boat. The Daufuskie Island Ferry runs between Broad Creek Marina, 18 Simmons Rd., Hilton Head Island, and Freeport Marina on Daufuskie. The ferry is operated by Calibogue Cruises (tel. 843/342-8687; www.daufuskiefreeport.com), and normally runs twice a day, Monday to Saturday. Round-trip tickets are $33; add lunch or dinner at the Old Daufuskie Crab Company, and either a golf-cart rental (map included) or a guided historical tour and the cost is $64. You can also opt to pay for the bus tour separately (Tues–Thurs; $30), or rent golf carts independently (map included): $60 for 2 1/2 hours or $100 per day (6 hr.).
There are also several private companies that provide high-speed water taxi services to the island.
