Getting There

Middlebury is on Route 7 about midway between Rutland and Burlington. From upstate New York by car, you can drive to Fort Ticonderoga and taking the "cable ferry" (tel. 802/897-7999) across the Lake Champlain. The ferry operates from mid-May to late October, about three times per hour; the cost for autos is a steep $8 one-way, $14 round-trip per car, but it takes just 7 minutes.

Visitor Information

The Addison County Chamber of Commerce, 2 Court St. (tel. 800/733-8376 or 802/388-9300; www.midvermont.com), is in a handsome, historic white building just off the green, facing The Middlebury Inn. Brochures and assistance are available from Monday through Friday during business hours (9am-5pm), and often on Saturday and Sunday from early June to mid-October. Ask for the map and guide to downtown Middlebury. It lists town shops and restaurants and is published by the Downtown Middlebury Business Bureau.
