Where to Eat
If you’re looking for a quick meal, some picnic food, or something to take back and cook in your room, drop by the old-timey Bell Buoy of Seaside, 1800 S. Roosevelt Dr. ([tel] 800/529-2722 or 503/738-6354; www.bellbuoyofseaside.com), which sells cooked Dungeness crabs, award-winning chowder, smoked salmon, fresh seafood, and shrimp or crab melts. Or duck into Tsunami Sandwich, 11 Broadway (www.tsunamisandwich.com; [tel] 503/738-5427), just a few yards from the beach. The ingredients used here are high-quality; there are about eight different sandwiches offered daily and you can eat in (on picnic tables) or take out. Tsunami’s is open daily at 11am and closes at different times according to the season.
As you may know by now, I am always on the lookout to find the best cup of coffee in every town I visit. In Seaside, it’s Beach Day Coffee, 7 Broadway (ww.beachdaycoffee.com; [tel] 503/338-9619), just a few steps from the Prom. They use locally roasted coffee and can steam up a foamy latte, squeeze out a zippy espresso and serve a good pastry. The shop is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm, Saturday and Sunday from 7am to 6pm.
