A Side Trip to Berlin, Maryland
Barely 20 minutes away from the Ocean City boardwalk is the historic town of Berlin. Its quaint stores and antiques shops have long been a favorite side trip for vacationers in Ocean City. It also has two charming places to stay, a good restaurant, and a little theater featuring live entertainment. These amenities and a location roughly equidistant from Assateague and Ocean City make Berlin a good diversion.
To get to Berlin from Ocean City, take the Route 50 bridge out of O.C. and follow Route 50; take a left on Route 113; from there, you'll hit Berlin in less than a mile.

Many shop owners have a story to tell about the time Julia Roberts stopped by or the day the cameras moved in for a close-up of their store window. Those stories and the shopping make a visit here amusing. For more lore, stop by the town's own museum.

Most shops are open daily from 10am to 5pm, though on Sundays hours are limited mostly to 11am to 3pm with a few open until 4 or 5pm.

For locally-made jewelry and an eclectic collection of gifts go to Beach House Boutique, 14 Broad St. (tel. 410/629-1010). TaDa, 18 William St. (tel. 410/641-4430), features striking home furnishings painted by the owner. Town Center Antiques (tel. 410/629-1895) has its wares at 1 N. Main St. and also at 113 N. Main St.
