Inside the Park
The park has two campgrounds, both open year-round. In the Island in the Sky District, Willow Flat Campground (elevation 6,200 ft.) has 12 sites, picnic tables, fire grates, and vault toilets; camping is $10. In the Needles District, Squaw Flat Campground (elevation 5,100 ft.) has 26 sites, fire grates, picnic tables, flush toilets, and year-round drinking water; the fee is $15 per night. Neither campground accepts reservations. Primitive campsites are also available throughout the park for four-wheelers and backpackers (permits required).
Other than camping, there are no facilities for lodging inside Canyonlands National Park. The nearest town is Moab.
Near the Park
Near Island in the Sky, the campground at scenic Dead Horse Point State Park, P.O. Box 609, Moab, UT 84532-0609 (www.utah.com/stateparks/dead_horse.htm; tel. 435/259-2614), has electric hookups with 20-amp power. Reservations are accepted (and encouraged Mar-Oct) with an $8 processing fee (tel. 800/322-3770; www.reserveamerica.com). There are also primitive campgrounds nearby on BLM lands.
Additional camping facilities are available on nearby public lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service; check with the Moab Area Travel Council, P.O. Box 550, Moab, UT 84532 (tel. 800/635-6622 or 435/259-8825; www.discovermoab.com), or stop at the Moab Information Center, at the corner of Main and Center streets, open Monday through Saturday 8am to 8pm and Sunday from 9am to 7pm from mid-March through October, with shorter hours the rest of the year. In and around Moab are over a dozen commercial campgrounds.
Near the Needles District are several commercial campgrounds in Monticello, along U.S. 191, about 15 miles south of the intersection of U.S. 191 and the park entry road. These include Mountain View RV Park and Campground, 632 N. Main St., Monticello, UT 84535 (tel. 435/587-2974), a well-maintained campground with grassy sites, some trees, free Wi-Fi, and cable TV hookups.
