Bolton: 40 miles W of downtown Boston and 17 miles from Concord
A little farther west of Concord, the vistas open up into farmland. This is an area of Massachusetts rich in apple orchards (along with pear trees and other fruit). Many people keep horses out here. A drive to Bolton or Harvard for apple picking is an annual activity for many Bostonians. There’s also skiing here, and extraordinary views of rolling hills as far as the eye can see.
From Boston and Cambridge, take Storrow Drive or Memorial Drive to Route 2 to its end in West Concord, and then pick up Route 111, which goes directly to Harvard, Mass. Bolton is 5 miles south of Harvard Center via Bolton Road (which becomes Harvard Road). Stow is 17 miles south of Harvard on Route 117. Alternately, take I-90, the Mass Pike, from Boston west to I-495 North; there are exits from I-495 for both Bolton and Harvard.
