The Lake Placid Pub and Brewery, 813 Mirror Lake Dr. (tel. 518/523-3813), just might be the best place in town to have a drink. They brew some truly fine ales (try Bill Clinton's fave, Ubu Ale), cook up great burgers and nachos, and have two floors for drinking (downstairs is more pubby and cozy) -- along with an outdoor deck. Dancing Bears Lounge in High Peaks Resort (tel. 518/523-4411) has a good selection of icy cold beers, plus live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Zig Zags, 130 Main St., (tel. 518/523-8221), attracts a lively under-30 crowd, while Roomers, 137 Main St. (tel. 518/523-3611), is the town's nightclub, where dancing lasts till the wee hours. But if your idea of a good time consists of cozying up to a fire with a nice glass of wine or fine liqueur, your place is The Cottage, 5 Mirror Lake Dr. (tel. 518/523-2544) -- part of the Mirror Lake Inn, and set on the water across the street from the hotel. Inside it's quaint, and there's also an outdoor patio that's perfect in summer.
