As Georgia towns go, even some state residents draw a blank at the mention of Jasper. Yet Jasper contains one of the most famous inns in the northern part of the state. The town makes an ideal base for exploring the northwest corridor of Georgia on day trips.

Jasper is one of the marble centers of Georgia -- in fact, marble quarried here was used in the Lincoln Memorial and the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. A Marble Festival in early October highlights tours of the quarries, with music, food, and arts and crafts.
