Baikal Review

The exquisite Baikal remains the best-known place in Acapulco for an over-the-top dining experience, although you will be paying top dollar for the view. You enter from the street, then descend a spiral staircase into the stunning bar and restaurant, awash in muted tan and cream colors and natural accents of stone, wood, and water. The restaurant itself is constructed into the cliff, providing sweeping views of Acapulco Bay's glittering lights. The large dining room, with a two-story ceiling, has comfortable seating. The creative menu combines fusion fare and then adds a dash of Mexican flare. Start with the thinly sliced scallops in chipotle vinaigrette or a terrine of foie gras in a port sauce. Notable entrees include the filet of sole and lobster, pork tenderloin in red wine, or medallions of New Zealand lamb in a sweet garlic sauce. There's also an extensive selection of wines. Baikal has a private VIP dining room, wine cellar, and elegant bar, ideal for enjoying a sunset cocktail or after-dinner drink. It's east of town on the scenic highway just before the entrance to the Las Brisas hotel.

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
