Planning a Trip

Getting There

If you're driving, Annecy is near several highways: From Paris, take A6 southeast to Beaune and connect with A6/N6 south to Mâcon-Nord. Then follow A40 southeast to Seyssel, connecting with N508 going southeast to Annecy. Allow at least 5 hours. From Geneva, follow A40W to St. Julien and take RN201 south toward Annecy. Trip time is 30 minutes.

A car is useful but not essential in the Alps. Annency has rail links with Paris and Lyon. Nine trains arrive daily from Lyon (trip time: 5 hours), a one-way fare costing 25€ to 40€ ($36-$58). About six trains daily arrive from Paris's Gare de Lyon (trip time: around 5 hrs, transfer at Lyon or Bellegarde.); the fare is 75€ to 95€ ($109-$138) one-way. For information, call tel. 36-35 or 08-92-35-35-35.

There's also a nearby airport (tel. 04-50-27-30-06) in the hamlet of Meythet (Aéroport Annecy-Haute-Savoie-Mont-Blanc), with service on Air France from Paris's Orly airport.
