Frommer's Review
Named after an offshore rock that resembles a hawksbill turtle, this 15-hectare (37-acre) all-inclusive resort is about 15km (10 miles) west of the airport and 6km (3 3/4 miles) southwest of St. John's. Set on four beaches (one reserved for those who want to go home sans tan lines), it caters to active types and is popular for weddings and honeymoons. This resort draws families and happy couples who like its informality and might feel uncomfortable in the atmosphere of pretension and social climbing that you get at Curtain Bluff. The hotel revolves around an open-air, breezy central core. Bedrooms are small and comfortably furnished, with tubs and showers. The least expensive accommodations open onto a garden; there are more secluded beachfront units available as well. The West Indian great house has three bedrooms for three to six occupants, with king-size beds and kitchenettes. Note: Rooms have neither TVs nor air-conditioning, but the atmosphere is usually lively, with some live music in season.
Facilities:
2 restaurants; 2 bars; tennis court; wellness center; snorkeling; Sunfish sailboats; water-skiing; windsurfing; nonsmoking rooms
