Frommer's Review

This small inn occupies one of the finest sites on Antigua, 4 hectares (10 acres) that directly flank a beach, with views over Nelson's Dockyard and English Harbour. Better run than its closest competitor, the Copper and Lumber Store Hotel , more elegant than nearby Admiral's Inn , The Inn at English Harbour is tranquil, informal, and very unpretentious. Its old-fashioned, historic charm continues to appeal despite the availability of more glamorous places on the island. The late actor Richard Burton liked it so well he spent two of his honeymoons here. Of course, that was a long time ago and many of the main guest rooms are showing their age these days. You can take a free water taxi to finer beaches along English Harbour. White-tile floors, screened plantation shutters, balconies, and excellent beds invite you to linger. The least expensive units are farthest from the beach, on a hillside. Six suites are decorated with a scattering of British and Caribbean antiques.

The inn is known for high-quality cooking. Lunch is served both at the beach house and in the main dining room. Have a drink before dinner in the old-style English Bar with stone walls and low overhead beams. Live entertainment is provided in winter.

Facilities:2 restaurants; 2 bars; outdoor pool; 2 tennis courts; health club; day sailing; deep-sea fishing; scuba diving; water-skiing; bike rental; horseback riding; car rental; room service (7am-9pm); babysitting; laundry service; nonsmoking rooms; water taxi to Nelson's Dockyard
