Frommer's Review
Forget a pool. Forget a beach. This is the "museum hotel" of English Harbour, with more atmosphere than even The Inn at English Harbour and Admiral's Inn . As its name suggests, this charming, 18th-century building was originally a store that sold wood and copper for repairing British sailing ships. The store and its adjacent harbor structures are built of brick that once was used as ships' ballast. Each of the period units is brick-lined, uniquely designed, and filled with fine Chippendale and Queen Anne reproductions, antiques, brass chandeliers, hardwood paneling, and hand-stenciled floors. The showers look as if they belong in a sailing vessel, with thick mahogany panels and polished brass fittings. All suites have kitchens with aging equipment, private bathrooms (with showers only), and ceiling fans. All the mattresses are first-rate. The downside is the stream of visitors who view it as a museum rather than an inn. Although the English expatriates who founded the hotel in the 1980s did so with great imagination, today the Antiguan government runs it with less flair.
A traditional English pub serves standard food daily, and the Wardroom serves a solid Continental dinner nightly. You may want to skip both of these for fish and chips and Bass on tap at the jumping Mainbrace Pub next door.
