CocoBay Resort Review

Set on a soaring headland which rises above a trio of sandy beaches, this hillside compound of colorful wood-sided, tin-roofed cottages lies on 4 steeply inclined hectares (10 acres) of land that's crisscrossed and traversed with boardwalks, staircases, and tropical landscaping. When this all-inclusive opened, it gave Sandals some real competition. Understated elegance and a touch or two of funky West Indian charm combine in this cliff-side setting on the "sunset side" of the island. Accommodations are comfortable but unpretentious, often within clapboard-sided buildings modeled on traditional vernacular houses, many of which are raised on stilts, with hand-carved furnishings and island art. Guests stay in cottages or in one of four "plantation houses," suitable for up to four occupants, on the hill. Each cottage has a four-poster king-size bed and a private porch.

Facilities:
2 restaurants; 2 bars; gym; outdoor pool; smoke-free rooms; spa; watersports

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
