Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino Review

This resort has two distinct hotel choices: the adults-only Renaissance Marina Hotel and the family-friendly Renaissance Ocean Suites. The six-story Marina Tower anchors a shopping mall and is popular with business travelers and vacationing couples, since this facility only accommodates guests who are 18 and over. The compact rooms feature thick carpeting, modern colors, stylish furniture, and step-out balconies. The bathrooms are small but have separate sink and bath areas. Overlooking the mall, atrium rooms are quiet, but lack an ocean view. Get a corner room on the sixth floor if you like high ceilings. On the waterfront and favored by groups and families, the five-story Ocean Suites feels more like a resort. It features a small man-made beach, a pool with elaborate slides, and 258 roomy one-bedroom suites with living rooms, large bathrooms, balconies or patios, and stocked wet bars. Carpeted floors, solid pastels, and glass bricks brighten the rooms.

Hop on the free water taxi to Renaissance Island (a 10-min. ride), for a relaxing day on the resort's private beach. Also on the premises are two casinos (including the island's only 24-hr. casino) and a theater that presents a flashy Vegas-style show.

Facilities: 4 restaurants, including L.G. Smith's; 4 bars; babysitting; 2 casinos; children's/teen programs; concierge; health club & spa; fitness center on Renaissance Island; 2 outdoor pools; room service; smoke-free rooms; tennis court; watersports equipment/rentals; Wi-Fi in lobby (for a fee); rooms for those w/limited mobility

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
