Frommer's Review

One of the hippest hotels in Colorado, the Sky Hotel melds kitsch and class into one satisfying colorful whole. Located slopeside just steps from the Silver Queen Gondola in downtown Aspen, Kimpton Hotels renovated the old Aspen Club Lodge beyond recognition in 2002. The rooms are a study in color and animal prints, with perks like cordless phones, iPod docking stations, and humidifiers. The only complaint is that the rooms are pretty small -- look elsewhere if you need space to spread out. The year-round pool features an outdoor bar, a waterfall, and a pair of fire pits. Walk inside to the ultrahip bar, 39 degrees, with vibrant striped sofas and log walls, great burgers, and specialty cocktails like the Botox Martini. The fun and funky lobby features a 15-foot chandelier shaped like a bright red lampshade, stately wood columns, high-backed white chairs, and an assortment of proudly displayed board games like Sorry! and Yahtzee.

Facilities:
Restaurant/lounge; outdoor heated pool; exercise room; outdoor whirlpool; limited watersports rentals; courtesy car; business center; in-room massage; dry cleaning

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
