Hotels in Aspen
Occupancy rates run 90% or higher during peak winter and summer seasons, so it's essential to make reservations as early as possible (or avoid peak seasons, as I try to do). The easiest way to book your lodgings is to call Stay Aspen Snowmass central reservations (tel. 888/649-5982; www.stayaspensnowmass.com). You can also find lodging through Aspen Resort Accommodations (tel. 800/727-7369; www.aspenreservations.net).
Many accommodations close during the spring and fall; if they're open, rates during those months are typically the lowest of any time during the year. Unless otherwise noted, parking is free. A tax of 9.6% is added to hotel bills.
Inexpensive -- Those on a budget might want to consider the St. Moritz Lodge & Condominiums, 334 W. Hyman Ave., Aspen, CO 81611 (tel. 800/817-2069 or 970/925-3220; www.stmoritzlodge.com), which is one of the best deals in Aspen; small double rooms with shared bathrooms start at $72 in spring and fall, $123 in summer, and $96 in ski season. There are also hostel beds ($36-$63 per person), plus pricier rooms with private bathrooms, units with kitchenettes, and one- and two-bedroom condominium units.

Hotel Jerome
Historic hotels don't get any more luxurious than the Jerome, but don't expect Victorian frills: The 1889 hotel's redbrick facade belies the contemporary décor inside. Unlike many historic lodgings, the rooms here are spacious, often created from melding two or more of the originals…$$$Around Town - Hotel
Hotel Lenado
Tucked away from the hustle, bustle, and glitz in a quiet neighborhood, the Hotel Lenado is also not going to induce sticker shock; the rates are quite reasonable for Aspen. The lodging melds the intimacy and style of a boutique hotel with the comfort and service of a B&B, and…$$$Around Town - Hotel
Limelight Hotel
Once the site of a longstanding mom-and-pop motel of the same name, the new Limelight opened in 2008 after the old one went the way of the wrecking ball. While nostalgic visitors might find the changes disarming, there is a lot to like here, from the sustainably minded architecture…$$$Around Town - Hotel
Sky Hotel
In 2002, Kimpton Hotels took a dated spot right on the base of Aspen Mountain and crafted a definitively Aspen boutique hotel with personality and color to spare. The small rooms were redecorated in 2012 with a nod to the 1969 Robert Redford ski-racing flick “Downhill Racer.” The…$$$Around Town - Hotel
The Gant
Open since 1973 and undergoing a stunning renovation in 2014, this longstanding condo resort is a good pick for those looking for room to spread out and convenience in their Aspen getaway. Set on 5 acres, it is one of the few condo properties in town with full kitchens, and the…$$$Around Town - Hotel
The Mountain Chalet
This is the best value in Aspen. Harking back to 1954, before the luxury boom, this slopeside motel has great access to Aspen Mountain, and comfortable, fairly standard motel rooms, as well as a pair of larger apartments with kitchens. There is also a winter-only bunk room for ski…$$$Around Town - Hotel
Viceroy Snowmass
Snowmass is dominated by condominium complexes, making this full-service hotel a much needed change of pace when it opened here in 2009. The modern, lodgelike look is perfect for the setting at the base of the slopes, and the motif carries over to the rooms and suites, sleek visions…$$$Around Town
