If you're here in the summer, try to catch a performance of Shanghaied in Astoria, a musical melodrama that is staged each year by the Astor Street Opry Company, 279 W. Marine Dr. (tel. 503/325-6104; www.shanghaiedinastoria.com). Performances are usually held from mid-July to mid-September. Also be sure to check the schedule of the Liberty Theater, 12th and Commercial streets (tel. 503/325-5922; www.liberty-theater.org), a beautifully restored 1920s movie palace.
