The Contemporary Museum holds shows in its Mount Vernon home but will sometimes exhibit art on the sides of buildings, on buses, or in other community settings as well. Its small storefront galleries are devoted to distinctly contemporary art, ranging from photography and video to paintings and performance art. It's a nice counterpoint to its neighbors, the elegant Walters Art Museum and the traditional Maryland Historical Society, which are a block or so away.
