Frommer's Review
This elegant hotel, a blend of old and new, is the best choice in town. It lies on a bank of the Regnitz, near the Altstadt and across from the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra building. The building, with its ocher-colored baroque walls, was constructed by the local archbishop in 1787 as a hospital. Today, the original hospital chapel continues to host local weddings. A less-glamorous modern annex is connected to the main building by a glass-sided breezeway. The annex contains perfectly functional rooms, but those in the main building are midsize to spacious and decorated in a classical elegant style with supremely comfortable furnishings. Bathrooms are a bit small but tidily kept, most often with a tub/shower. The hotel is popular with conventioneers, and is entirely nonsmoking.
