This welcoming restaurant plays host to business meetings at lunch, family outings at dinner, and students at all times. Cheery voices bounce off the stucco walls and tile floors, but it seldom gets terribly noisy, probably because everyone's mouth is full. You might start with house garlic bread, lavished with chopped tomato, red onion, fennel seed, and olive oil. The antipasto platter overflows with the chef's choice of meats, cheeses, and roasted vegetables. Main dishes include Italian specialties such as chicken Marsala, veal saltimbocca, seafood fra diavolo, and homemade pasta (the daily specials are always good bets) as well as steaks and chops. True, this isn't the classic Boston Italian restaurant experience, which involves venturing to the North End -- but it's not a parking nightmare or a rushed meal in an overcrowded dining room, either. The Mastromauro family has dished up large portions of delicious food here, just outside Central Square, since 1971.
