View Boston

In place of the old Skywalk Observatory and Top of the Hub restaurant, the three uppermost floors of the Prudential Tower are now occupied by a reimagined, 59,000-square-foot attraction called View Boston. The visitor experience starts on the spacious 52nd floor, where enormous walls of windows show off dazzling wraparound views of city sights such as the Charles River, Fenway Park, the gold-domed Massachusetts State House, Boston Harbor, and beyond.

Touch-screen viewfinders swivel to fill you in on the noteworthy landmarks and neighborhoods in your line of vision. Small metal sculptures placed throughout the floor let those with visibility impairments explore the skyline by touch.

A bar and outdoor terrace can be found one floor below. Continue one more story down to reach the Beacon bistro and several engaging exhibits, including a detailed model of the entire city that serves as a canvas for a projected light show. In a panoramic theater, a short film depicts a family visiting four seasons' worth of Boston tourism highlights.

As you make your way through the observatory, you'll get a bunch of chances to scan a bar code on your ticket to learn more about any attractions or parts of town that pique your interest. Before you leave, you can have all those places compiled in a helpful itinerary—part of an admirable effort on View Boston's part to encourage visitors to engage with the city rather than merely gaze at it from an elevated height.
