Frommer's Review
The Boston Harbor Hotel is one of the finest hotels in town -- it's in my top five -- and certainly the prettiest, whether you approach its landmark arch by land or sea (on a water taxi or sightseeing cruise). The 16-story brick building is within walking distance of downtown and the waterfront attractions, and it prides itself on offering top-notch service and abundant amenities to travelers pursuing both business and pleasure.
The plush guest rooms have marble bathrooms and look out on the harbor, the skyline, or (from the lower floors) the Rose Kennedy Greenway. Rooms with city views are less expensive, but the most desirable units (suites with private terraces) enjoy dazzling water vistas. At press time, the hotel was in the midst of a $12 million refurbishment scheduled to wrap up by the fall of 2007, just after its 20th anniversary. Designed to give the luxurious guest rooms more of a residential feel, the overhaul covered upgrades to the in-room technological features as well as the mahogany furnishings, which include work desks and comfortable chairs. Tip: The grand public spaces hold a museum-quality collection of paintings, drawings, prints, and nautical charts.
Facilities:Excellent restaurant (eclectic, w/15,000-bottle wine cellar); cafe; bar; 60-ft. indoor lap pool; well-appointed health club and spa; concierge; courtesy car; state-of-the-art business center w/professional staff; 24-hr. room service; in-room massage; babysitting; laundry service; same-day dry cleaning; rooms for those w/limited mobility
