Holiday Inn Boston at Beacon Hill Review

Just off one of Beacon Hill's main streets, this 15-story hotel courts leisure travelers with its easy access to downtown and the Back Bay, the river, and Cambridge. Especially appealing to vacationing families is the seasonal outdoor pool. Guest rooms are quite large, with contemporary furnishings and picture-window views of the city, the State House, or the parking structure -- ask for a room on a high floor, facing Blossom Street if possible. The building is part of a small retail complex with a Whole Foods supermarket, a drugstore, and a handful of shops. Because it's adjacent to Massachusetts General Hospital, the hotel books a fair number of patients and relatives, and the staff is sensitive to their needs.

Facilities:
Restaurant; lounge; concierge; executive-level rooms; small exercise room; access to nearby health club ($20); outdoor heated pool; room service

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
