Onyx Hotel Review

This plush boutique hotel is the finest property in this evolving neighborhood, which grows more pleasant by the day but is a zoo before and after big events at the nearby TD Garden. Convenient to North Station and the North End, it's an easy walk from downtown and Beacon Hill. The 10-story hotel is contemporary in style, decorated in soothing jewel tones with sleek lines and high ceilings that make the decent-size rooms feel even bigger. Each unit in the eco-friendly Kimpton property holds a large work desk. The best accommodations are the top-floor suites, but any room with a floor-to-ceiling window feels like a mini-palace. The nearby Bulfinch is less expensive and offers correspondingly fewer amenities. Tip: Sign up for the (free) frequent-guest program, and the hotel waives the Internet access fee.

Facilities:
Lounge; exercise room; access to nearby health club; room service

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
