Frommer's Review

The "grande dame of Boston" is a classic grand hotel, an old-fashioned lodging with opulent public spaces that recalls the days when an out-of-town trip (by train, of course) was an event, not an ordeal. Built in 1912, the seven-story Renaissance-revival building faces beautiful Copley Square. The spacious, meticulously maintained guest rooms have a residential feel, with posh draperies and upholstery and custom furnishings, which include oversize desks and pillow-top mattresses. Rooms that face the square or Clarendon Street afford better views than those that overlook busy Dartmouth Street; my favorite units are theme suites that celebrate local treasures such as the Museum of Fine Arts and the Boston Symphony. Known for superb service, the Copley Plaza boasts countless little details (courtesy-car service in a London taxi, a resident black Lab whom guests can book for a walk or run, inventive weekend packages) that go well past "the customer is always right" to "the customer is spoiled rotten" -- and isn't that what you look for in this price category?

Facilities:Restaurant (steakhouse); lounge (Oak Bar); exercise room; access to nearby health club ($15); concierge; tour desk; courtesy car; business center; 24-hr. room service; laundry service; same-day dry cleaning; concierge-level rooms; rooms for those w/limited mobility
