Double-check everything before setting out for this hostel: At press time, a replacement is under construction in the Theater District, and this location is set to close in spring 2012 -- if Boston's famously baroque permitting process allows. Meanwhile, the modest four-story hostel near the Berklee College of Music and Hynes Convention Center will continue welcoming students, youth groups, and other travelers in search of comfortable, no-frills lodging. Accommodations are dorm-style (all men, all women, or co-ed), with six beds per room. The air-conditioned building has a full kitchen, 29 bathrooms (men and women have separate facilities), a large common room, and meeting and workshop space. It provides linens, or you can bring your own; sleeping bags are not permitted. The enthusiastic staff organizes free and inexpensive cultural, educational, and recreational programs. Hostelling International also operates a summer-only hostel just outside Kenmore Square.
