Royal Sonesta Hotel Review

This luxurious hotel is popular with business travelers and with families, who enjoy the huge pool. The CambridgeSide Galleria mall is across the street, the Museum of Science around the corner, and tech-happy Kendall Square 10 minutes away on foot. Even amid all that activity, the hotel feels serene, thanks in part to the helpful staff. Most of the rooms in the 10-story building look out on the river or the city (higher prices are for better views). Everything is custom designed in modern, comfortable style. The East Tower underwent a $6-million refurbishment in 2011; request a room there if possible. The Sonesta's closest competition is Hotel Marlowe , across the street, which offers less extensive fitness options and fewer river views.

Facilities:
Restaurant; cafe w/seasonal outdoor seating; bike rental (seasonal); concierge; well-equipped 24-hr. health club & spa; heated indoor/outdoor pool w/retractable roof; room service; adjoining standard units are available; staff is trained in disability awareness

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
