Taj Boston Review

With its luxurious accommodations, wonderful service, and old-Boston atmosphere, Taj Boston appeals to both vacationers and business travelers. In a great location overlooking the Public Garden, the building was completely restored for its 75th anniversary in 2002 and has been considerably spruced up since. The elegantly appointed guest rooms have dark-wood furnishings, feather duvets, Frette linens, three phones (one in the marble bathroom), and windows that open. You'll pay more for a room with a view. The best units are suites, which have wood-burning fireplaces. Taj, an India-based luxury chain, took over the original Ritz-Carlton in 2007, but many people still know this property as "the old Ritz." One of the most traditional lodgings in town, it's competitive with other top-tier hotels on cachet alone. The Mandarin Oriental and archrival Four Seasons have superior fitness facilities -- and higher prices.

Facilities:
Restaurant; bar; lounge; babysitting; concierge; club-level rooms; exercise room; room service

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
