Frommer's Review

Better known as "the old Ritz-Carlton," the Taj Boston is the India-based luxury chain's second American property (the first is in New York). The legendary hotel overlooking the Public Garden re-flagged in early 2007; so far, the only changes have been superficial. That's probably wise: The hotel has attracted both the "proper Bostonian" and the celebrated visitor since 1927. The elegantly appointed guest rooms have plush linens, feather duvets, crystal chandeliers, three phones (one in the bathroom), and windows that open. You'll pay more for a room with a view. The best units are the suites, which have wood-burning fireplaces. Completely restored for its 75th anniversary in 2002, the property will likely undergo more upgrades during the lifespan of this book; check ahead for specifics. One of the most traditional lodgings in town, it's competitive with other hotels in this price category on cachet alone, but that may not be enough for demanding guests now that InterContinental has opened and Mandarin Oriental is waiting in the wings.

Facilities:Restaurant; bar; lounge; exercise room; concierge; courtesy car; airport shuttle; business center; 24-hr. room service; in-room massage; babysitting; laundry service; same-day dry cleaning; club-level rooms; rooms for those w/limited mobility
