Frommer's Review
A century-old building equipped with the latest technology; a limited-service Marriott with a boutique feel; tucked away on a side street yet in the middle of everything: the contradictions here are numerous and enjoyable. Opened in 2004 in a renovated 1890 apartment house just off Copley Square, the 10-story hotel retains a residential feel. But it's more 21st century than 19th, with clean-lined mahogany furnishings and rich jewel tones set off by neutrals and subdued florals. I especially like the five suites, which have a sleeper sofa in the meeting-friendly living room and two queen-size beds. Designed to appeal to the corporate traveler, with oversize work desks and a "library lounge" lobby that's suitable for meeting a client or colleague, it does so much leisure business that rates often rise on weekends. Without an all-day restaurant or the lavish perks of most other neighborhood hotels (including its gargantuan sister property in Copley Place), the hotel woos -- and wins -- repeat business with top-notch service and early-evening activities such as massages and beer tastings.
